Using Our Website

Sylvania Church offers a host of ways to stay connected.  These connectivity options include the ability to receive event updates via email, RSS reader, Facebook, and/or Twitter, and also the ability to engage in ongoing dialogue via one of our blog posts.  Click here to find out more about how you can stay connected with Sylvania.

A) CONNECT YOURSELF…

1) By Regularly Visiting the Sylvania Church Website.

The Sylvania website is the most comprehensive way to stay connected to Sylvania Church, and our various pages and blogs may be accessed via the drop-down menu in our menu bar above.  On our blog pages, in particular, you’ll not only find information about upcoming events, but also thoughts and studies from our pastoral staff and elders, and even the ability to dialogue with others at Sylvania about these thoughts and studies right on our website.  By simply registering in the “Login” box at the bottom of the page, you’ll gain access to every page and post on the website, as some pages and posts are available only to members of Sylvania Church.

2) By Subscribing to the Sylvania Blog Via Email.

Because of a great connectivity option called RSS, or Real Simple Syndication, the Sylvania blog gives you the option to receive Sylvania blog posts automatically.  And for added convenience, the Sylvania website gives you the ability to receive only the information that applies to you.  For example, if you are neither a junior high or high school student nor the parent of a junior high or high school student, then you may opt out of receiving information about the JH & HS ministry.  Or if you are a member, you may want to opt out of the “I’m New” mailing list.  The Sylvania blog lets you subscribe to the ministries that involve you so that your Inbox can avoid some clutter.  To subscribe, simply fill out the form at the bottom of the page under the heading “Subscribe Via Email.” And be sure to select all mailing lists from which you want to receive info.  As a note, you may subscribe to as many of our feeds as you like.

3) By Subscribing to Our Sermons Via iTunes.

iTunes is free (our favorite price!), and is almost undoubtedly the most user friendly and convenient media player available, and it comes with one of the largest media stores in the world built right in.  Sylvania sermons are available free on iTunes for subscription (i.e.,  your iTunes will automatically download the latest Sylvania sermons for you), specific downloads (i.e., you can pick and choose specific sermons you’d like to download) and/or widespread distribution.

4) By Participating In Discussions.

What are “discussions”?  That’s a great question.  Discussions are one of the reasons we designed our website the way we did.  In other words, we think our Discussion blog is one of the most important aspects of our website.

Our Discussion blog is dedicated solely to… well… discussion.  The purpose of the Discussion blog is to allow the members and friends of Sylvania Church to interact with the truth of God’s Word together in an online discussion.  And the way it works is simple.  The ministerial staff periodically post articles with comments sections at the bottom where they then participate in group discussion with the members and friends of Sylvania Church.  Subscribing to the Discussion email will send you links to the latest discussions so that you may enjoy and reap the blessings of corporate devotion to God’s Word, which is outlined for us in Scripture itself.

To participate in a discussion (or comment on any page or blog post), simply navigate to the particular page or post and login with your Facebook, Twitter, Disqus, Yahoo!, or OpenID username and password.  If you’re in a discussion you’d like to continue, you may subscribe to the comments of that particular web page or blog post to receive email updates every time someone else comments on that particular page or post.  And if you no longer wish to receive email updates for the comments on that particular page or post, you may easily unsubscribe at any time.

Also, please note that we have gone to lengths to make our website and safe and secure place for you to visit.  If it’s any consolation, we’re confident enough in the security of our website that we, the staff, have all registered ourselves in the same way we’re asking you to.  How’s that for a vote of confidence?

5) By Subscribing to One or More of Sylvania’s Google Calendars.

If you utilize a calendar program on your computer (i.e., iCal, Outlook, etc.) or phone (i.e., iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, Windows Mobile, etc.), or an online calendar, you may now subscribe to ministry-specific calendars via the “Events” page in the menu bar above.  With just a few simple clicks, your calendar will automatically receive the most updated calendar information from Sylvania Church without you doing anything else ever.  Pretty cool, huh?  For more about subscribing to our calendar, click here.

B) CONNECT OTHERS…

1) By Sharing Sylvania Pages or Posts with Your Friends Via Email or Your Social Networks.

Want to discuss the contents of a page or blog post from the Sylvania website with a friend via email, with those following you on Twitter, or with your friends on Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Friend Feed, etc.?  Or maybe you have a friend you’d like to invite to Sylvania and want to give them the opportunity to check out Sylvania before they ever walk through the doors.  Now you can.

To share a Sylvania web page or blog post, simply make your way to the specific page or post you want to share, scroll to the bottom of the post, and click the icon for email or for the social networking site to which you’d like to share the contents of that particular page or blog post.

Or if you’d like to send them a link to the Sylvania homepage so they can peruse the entire website, simply click the “Save/Share” link in the navigation menu at the top of every Sylvania page, and select the email or social networking option by which you’d like to send your invitation.

2) By Saving or Printing Pages and Blog Posts.

Want to print or save the contents of a web page or blog post for your own use or to share with a friend?  The Sylvania website makes this easy.  To print or save a page or blog post, simply make your way to the specific page or blog post you want to print or save, scroll to the bottom of the page or post, hover your mouse over “Share/Save”, and click “PrintFriendly.”
