We Believe"
THE REQUIREMENT FOR
MEMBERSHIP
We believe that Sylvania Church is an extension of God's universal
Church, which embraces all true
believers around the world. Our
primary requirement for
membership is just what the
Bible requires for membership in
the universal Church. That is,
salvation by grace through faith
in Jesus Christ alone.
Our good works, our church
attendance, our baptism, our
tithing, our family background,
our "walking the aisle" or other
experience is not what gets us
to God. Each one of us must
personally repent and believe in
Jesus Christ as our only savior.
Acts 4:12; Titus 3:5-7
Therefore, when you request
membership at Sylvania, you will
have an opportunity to tell your
personal "story" of how you came
to know Christ. The pastor or an
elder will meet with you
one-on-one to hear your story.
Don't worry if you don't know
all the "right words." The
pastor or elder will be able to
help you understand and express
your experience if you need him
to. We love to do that!! It is
the great joy of being a pastor
or elder to hear the personal
story of how our Lord Jesus has
made a difference in your life!
WHO CAN BECOME MEMBERS?
Adults and children who have repented of their sins, professed personal
faith in Jesus Christ, been
baptized, have been through the
membership process, agree with
the church doctrinal statement,
agree to walk in harmony with
the church constitution and have
affiliated themselves with
Sylvania, are eligible to become
members.
THE PRIVILEGE OF MEMBERSHIP
You are an important part of the body of Christ, both here and around the
world. Your gifts and talents
are needed here at Sylvania. You
can influence others in a
positive way; God has brought
you here in His providence. God
has brought you to where you are
in life so you can help others
in their journey.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
A Discover Sylvania Orientation/Luncheon is offered several times a year
and is usually held following
the morning worship service.
This orientation/luncheon is
designed to introduce you to the
history and personality of
Sylvania and to acquaint you
with the vision and mission of
Sylvania. It is a unique
opportunity to meet the pastor,
staff and elders. There is an
extended question and answer
period where you can
participate.
At the end of the orientation/luncheon you will have the opportunity to
seek membership by meeting
privately with the pastor, a
staff member or elder and
telling them your story of how
you came to know Christ.
Normally, the next Sunday after your meeting with the pastor, staff
member or elder, you will be
presented to the congregation as
a new member.
WHAT DO I DO NOW?
If you think Sylvania Church is where God is leading you, then please
call the church office or
complete the participation form
in the worship guide to sign up
for the next Discover Sylvania
Orientation/Luncheon. We'd love
to have you join the family!
