About Small Groups at Sylvania

Collectively, we value community. In fact, more than 80% of us are part of a Sylvania small group where we celebrate together, struggle together, eat together, and talk about God’s Word together.

What happens at small group?

At Sylvania, small groups are intended to help facilitate deep, godly relationships. And most small groups involve three core components: eating, studying, and prayer.

Most groups study books on Christian living. For example, some groups have read The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield, The Meaning of Marriage by Tim & Kathy Keller, Give Them Grace by Elyse Fitzpatrick, etc.

Other small groups discuss the most recent Sylvania sermon while others study books of the Bible.

How small is a small group?

The typical Sylvania small group includes 8-12 adult participants. Groups that include families take a variety of approaches to childcare.

Who can be part of a small group?

Because growing to love and support each other well requires commitment and consistency, most small group members are faithful members of Sylvania Church.

That said, membership is not a small group requirement. If you’re not yet a member and would like to talk about joining a small group, please let us know. We’d love to talk!

When do small groups meet?

There is no set small group meeting time. Each small group sets its own meeting schedule. That said, most meet every other week in the evenings.

Where do small groups meet?

As with the small group meeting times, small group meeting locations are determined by each small group. Most meet in the homes of group members, but some meet at the church or other places.
